Good Morning, Friends!
This week has been another greatly productive one for me in regards to my personal life and with my writing.
The beginning of this week, I was able to work out a great outline for my story. For me, this is a huge feat-especially considering how I’ve written a lot of my past pieces. I would just dive into a story and just write it with no real planning involved, just writing within what I call “the moment.” As I’ve gotten older, that “moment” I talk about can last anywhere from minutes to hours with no indication as to what that “moment” will be like. So, to prepare myself for that, I decided to dissect my short story into areas of focus for my overall piece. Since I want to incorporate a lot of personal philosophies and ideas, I broke up the short story by matters of importance (outside perspective versus inside perspective) and ordered said matters of importance to flow accordingly. This way when I’m feeling stuck, I can turn to my outline as a guide. As someone who likes to explore new ways of learning, I’m glad that I decided to give this a try. I see my outline as more of a literary to do list, which by looking at it from that perspective, I can honestly say that it helped to write it out for me. In my everyday life, I usually schedule out my day ahead so that I can complete the tasks that need to be done that day in a timely manner. I can’t believe I didn’t think to do this sooner! Well, the important thing is, I have that knowledge to help me now, and I will use it accordingly.
As Camp NaNoWriMo approaches for the April month, I’ve decided that I will just focus more on getting my story to paper, and worry about editing in May. I think what’s more important is getting back into the swing of writing on such a large scale again. I think what’s remarkable is that a creative writing program like this exists, and that it’s free and open to the public. I am really psyched for this challenge that lies ahead of me, and I can’t wait to share my experience with you all, one day at a time. For those of you participating in the Camp, I look forward to working along side you, making our dreams come true. To those who are just along for the ride, I hope you have a great time, and I secretly hope that one day, you’ll join along. Until then, have a great rest of your week, and I’ll see you Saturday with the usual weekly reflection.
